3 Arrested in Deloit Double Murder, Arson

Michael Schenk, 26

UPDATE 5:00 P.M.

(DENISON, IA) Police have now released the names of Monday's Deloit deaths, now being ruled as a double homicide.

They've been identified as 80-year-old Marvin Huelsing and 81-year-old Alice Huisenga, both residents of Carroll County.

Authorities say the two victims were old friends and Mr. Huelsing owned the burned trailer which he used during inclement weather as a getaway, presumably while farming.
Due to these three arrest, officials have learned the motive behind these fatal crimes and are shocked.
19-year-old Jayden Chapman, 26-year-old Michael Schenk and 36-year-old Erika Haberberger-Dains are all being charged in connection with these murders and the arson. "Generically what our investigation is telling us right now, uhhh, the three people identified as charged in this investigation were likely out that property to engage in stealing scrap metal from that property," said DCI Agent Dan Dawson. Authorities said these suspects, each Denison residents, do have criminal backgrounds, ranging from 3rd degree burglary to driving with suspended licenses.
Both Schenk and Chapman are facing several other pending charges.
Autopsy results have also determined Mr. Huelsing died of multiple gun wounds and his friend, Ms. Huisenga died of homicidal violence.
Examiners have had difficulties determining the exact cause of her death because of the severity of the burn wounds.
Each of the suspects is being held at the Crawford County Jail for their first court appearance.
They're being charged with 2 counts of 1st degree murder and 1st degree arson.
(DENISON, IA) 1:00 P.M. Authorities on Thursday charged three people with the murder of two elderly friends in Deloit, Iowa. The bodies were found Monday inside a burning trailer.

At a press conference in Denison on Thursday, Iowa DCI investigators identified the victims as Marvin Huesling, 80, and Alice Huisenga, 81, both of Carroll County, Iowa. An autopsy revealed Huesling was shot to death. Huisenga died from "homicidal violence." Authorities declined to elaborate on how Huisenga was killed.
