SIOUX CITY, IA — The FBI is warning us about a new identity theft scheme that's going on in Iowa.
They say a group of Eastern Europeans who may be working out of Des Moines are attaching fake card readers in ATM's and at gas stations.
The Spencer Chamber of Commerce is adding a warning of its own about these devices, just ahead of the start of the Clay County Fair in Spencer this weekend.
They want people to be aware of the difference between a legitimate ATM card reader, and a skimming device, which you can see in this picture.
The legitimate reader is on the left, the skimmer on the right.
If you encounter a skimmer, or believe the ATM you're using has been tampered with, call your local police department immediately.
