Aldi construction delayed by US Army Corps of Engineers permit
There's also been a delay in bringing Sioux City's newest supermarket to town.
In April the city agreed to sell a piece of land on Floyd Boulevard to the German discount supermarket Aldi.
The council has agreed to extend the amount of time the chain has to finish construction and open the new store.
Mayor Bob Scott says that extension was needed due to a delay in obtaining permits for the construction.
"When it came to that Corps permit which is a real problem now due to bridges and everything the Corps isn't good about getting them done. They put it back a year and they asked for a year deferral and we granted that and now they're actually going to close on the property and they're going to build," said Sioux City Mayor Bob Scott.
Aldi now has until 2020 to finish construction and open the store on Floyd Boulevard.
The chain says construction should begin in the spring.
