Authorities increase safety precautions at Burbank Beach
With summer in full swing, the Union County Sheriff's Office is making sure people stay safe when spending time near or at Burbank Beach.
In the last couple years, three people have been swept away and drowned in the Missouri River, and the county is doing everything they can to prevent that.
They recently added new signs enforcing existing "no parking" regulations near the beach.
"The 'Mighty-Mo' is a river to be respected and obviously we've had some tragedies in the last couple to three years and we want to prevent anymore tragedies. So we have to respect it and this area here is really not a good area to go swimming," said Union County Sheriff Dan Limoges.
They've also added more patrols to keep an eye on the beach, several times a week.
