Baconfest brings out Siouxland's love for bacon and all for a good cause
Bacon, bacon and even more bacon, that was the theme this afternoon at the 4th Annual Baconfest.
From bacon pizza to bacon ice cream, bacon-wrapped pickles to chocolate covered bacon, America's favorite breakfast food was baked, sprinkled and wrapped around dozens of different things, all as a fundraiser for a Siouxland non-profit.
"We just love bacon and we needed a fundraiser to raise awareness of Habitat for Humanity in the Siouxland area, but to also raise funds for our organization and mission to build affordable safe and decent houses. So we knew it'd be one that would draw out the people out. Even on a rain like today. So they're out and having fun. The rain has cleared up and hopefully they're having a good time," said executive director for Siouxland Habitat for Humanity Katie Roberts.
For bacon lovers young and old, today's event had something for everyone.
"Well, I'm going to try all the bacon you know. Bacon is good, everyone likes bacon. My sisters boyfriend works here so he told us about it so we came out to check it out. It's a cold day but it's whatever. That Bacon eating contest was pretty cool. That kid was shoving it. He was eating so much bacon," said Gabe Basarich.
