Boys & Girls Clubs of Siouxland opens new teen-targeted center

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The Boys and Girls Clubs of Siouxland is opening its newly-renovated "Teen Center," geared toward middle school-aged kids.

It offers older kids different amenities like a movie theatre, a game room, a computer lab, a music studio and a fitness center.

The new "Teen Center" comes as the Club teams up with local schools and other agencies for events aimed at better connecting those kids and their parents.

"Family communication and being able to have those relationships at home are so vital and we want to help out where we can, where things might be lacking," said Kevin Pottebaum, resource director for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Siouxland. "A lot of what we promote at the club is, we want you to have a great time here, but we want you to have everything you need to be done in your academic world."

There will be six "Youth Empowerment Events," with the first two taking place next week.
