Burglary suspects arrested in Dakota County

Last Sunday, Dakota County Sheriff’s Deputies were responding to the 1900 Block of South Bluff Road in Hubbard for a burglary in progress.

When Deputies arrived on scene the two suspects took off on an ATV, drove into a ditch and then fled on foot.

Seven off-duty deputies were called in for help along with the next two deputies on-duty for an eventual total of 11 deputies.

The Nebraska State Patrol was contacted for assistance with a tracking K9 and Aerial Support.

The NSP K9 Team, a deputy and another NSP Trooper began tracking and eventually found one of the suspects, Michael Rees (29) of Sioux City, IA, hiding in the woods.

Due to the heat, humidity and extreme terrain the K9 was exhausted and Sioux City Police contacted to see if they had a tracking K9 available to assist.

The Sioux City K9 located a second suspect, Derek Malloy (31) of Sioux City, IA, hiding in a tree a short time later.

Rees and Malloy are charged with Possession of Burglary Tools, Burglary and Obstruct Government Operation.

The investigation continues.

The Dakota County Sheriff Office is glad to have a great working relationship with the Sioux City Police Department and the Nebraska State Patrol an appreciates their assistance with their K9 Teams.
