    Cherokee Plant sold to Iowa Food Group<p>{/p}

    Bill Anderson, Cherokee Area Economic Development Director, confirms to Siouxland News that the former Cherokee Tyson Deli Plant has been sold to a group called Iowa Food Group.

    The new owners, Iowa Food Group, hopes to be operating by January, and will be a protein processing company producing beef, pork and poultry meats.

    Anderson says that the new company will employ about 100 workers at first, then add more employees as needed.

    There will an official public announcement and a chance to meet the new owners on Thursday night at 5:00 PM at the Cherokee Golf and Country Club.

    The Cherokee Area Economic Development Corporation will also host a chamber coffee event Friday at the Iowa Food Group site on S. Lake St. in Cherokee.

    Applications for jobs will be available at the chamber coffee event as well, or you can contact the Economic Development Corporation for an application.

    The plant has been empty since Tyson closed the pork processing facility there back in 2014.
