Cyclists ride through Sioux City for annual Bike-N-Bite event

Gretchen Wheelock and her two children stopped at the Brightside Cafe during the Bike-N-Bite event

Glen Houts loves taking his bike out for ride.

"So this is actually a cargo bike it's made to haul whatever, so it's a little bit different than the normal bike," said Houts.

Glen and his family are part of dozens of cyclists participating in unique kind of bike route, this one comes with sweet treats and variety of local food.

"We got a California club here and Turkey bacon and avocado, we got some Brightside clubs with turkey roast beef and ham," said Eric Munoz, co-owner of Brightside Cafe.

Hosted by Iowa State University's Extension and Outreach Flavors of Northwest, the Bike-N-Bite event is an opportunity for people to celebrate local restaurants and cafes.

"This is actually our first time here and it's one of the stops that's new to us," said Jennifer Hunt.

Cyclists started at Farmers Market, and stopped at places spread throughout Sioux City, including Jitters, Brightside Cafe, One Stop Meat Shop and many more.

"It's great to get out and try something new and support our local businesses," said Pam Bolender.

And event organizers say, not only is this a great way to connect with cyclists, but it also boosts the city's economic development.

It's bringing in a whole new crowd and something fun for them to try and an opportunity to market to a different audience," said Katelyn Brinkerhoff, Horticultural Coordinator at ISU Extension and Outreach.

"I definitely saw a lot of new places I never even heard of," said Ben Limoges.

"Pretty fun to ride around and go," said Bryanna Woodard.

"You get to eat a lot of snacks and you get to ride your bike," said the Wheelock family.

"Well thank you a million, I hope you get to enjoy the day," said Ron Muth, owner of One Stop Meat Shop.
