Dakota Dunes family buys "Little Yellow Dog" for nearly $16,000

A white golden retriever has a new home tonight at the price of nearly $16,000.

The Keizer family of Dakota Dunes is welcoming the "little yellow dog" named Polar.

This afternoon at the Little Yellow Dog Auction, Shane Keizer made the winning bid of $15,750, bringing home little Polar.

Shane was joined by his son Kolby and daughter Brooklyn, who didn't expect to go home with the irresistible pup.

"We've been waiting for a Golden Retriever. We've had three golden retrievers and they've all unfortunately passed away and at home now, we have two Yorkies. So we kind of went a different direction. We love those dogs and I've been telling the Goodfellow folks, we need a Golden Retriever. So we saw it in the paper a few weeks ago, so we're excited," said Keizer.

While the 12-week-old pup's name is Polar, Keizer's kids say they're are looking to name him Boji.

"I like the bigger dogs because they're more fun to play with and they got more energy," said Kolby Keizer.

"I'm just excited for another dog," said Brooklyn Keizer.

All proceeds from today's auction will benefit the Sioux City Journal's Mr. Goodfellow Charity that began in 1914.
