Early morning fire breaks out in Le Mars landfill, still burning tonight
Firefighters in Le Mars are still trying to contain a fire at the Plymouth County Landfill.
That fire began around midnight Friday, with fire crews on scene battling the blaze all night.
Friday morning, crews brought in construction equipment to help cut-off the burned areas of the landfill from those not yet affected.
Le Mars Fire Chief Dave Schipper says he believes the fire may have started by spontaneous combustion and that crews have to consult the Plymouth County Landfill Board and possibly the Iowa DNR over their next move.
