First case of West Nile confirmed in South Dakota

A southwest South Dakota man is that state's first confirmed case of West Nile Virus in 2018.

The Todd County man, reportedly in his 30's, was not sick, but the virus was picked up during a screening of blood donations.

The South Dakota Department of Health says the state has a higher number of West Nile cases each year than nearby states and is reminding everyone to use mosquito repellents, wear pants and long sleeves when outside and reduce the number of places on your property where mosquitoes can breed.
