Former Winnebago Tribal Chairman receives probation
John Blackhawk, the former chairman of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska's Tribal Council, has received probation; for his role in a scheme of taking money from the WinnaVegas Casino in Sloan, IA.
Blackhawk will spend 5 years on probation and must repay the $36,000 that he received as part of the scheme.
He pled guilty earlier this year to a single charge of theft from a gaming establishment on Indian lands as part of a plea deal.
Eight other former tribal council members have either been sentenced or still await sentencing in this case.
