SIOUX CITY, Iowa — The year 2020 has seen a number of people go viral on social media for the strangest of reasons.
For Siouxland News at Sunrise Meteorologist Katie Nickolaou, that situation involved a bit of a crappy lesson.
Nickolaou stumbled upon a TikTok of a woman chomping down on an icicle and had a word of warning.
When icicles form, it's from water that melts off of your roof and runs down the side of the building," she said in her TikTok video.
Do you know what else is on your roof?
Bird poop... a lot of it!
Nickolaou, who posted the video Wednesday afternoon, has racked up nearly 8 million views on TikTok, 1.8 million likes and tens of thousands of comments.
She's also found herself the subject of TMZ and New York Post articles!
Nickolaou says she never expected her video to go viral, she just hopes to educate her followers along the way.
"For the past few weeks, I've noticed videos circulating on social media of people eating icicles. It’s practically a right of passage in the Midwest! I always love telling people weather facts, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to spread some funny and informative meteorological tidbits!"
This is better than winning an award!" Siouxland News News Director Diana Castillo said of Nickolaou's viral fame, "What a way to end 2020.
