Local boy scout branch speaks out on decision to allow girls into organization
Reaction continues to pour in tonight to yesterday's decision by the Boy Scouts of America to begin allowing girls into the organization.
Girls will be allowed into cub scout dens beginning next year and a plan to allow them into senior scouting troops by 2019 is in the works.
A local scoutmaster says the decision will make scouting more inclusive and family-friendly.
"The opportunity is for the entire family to become involved in a program that has been proven over 107 years to instill great values while really letting the kids have a great deal of fun while they do it. That's the biggest payoff. Girls have been asking to be in this since I was a child," said district chairman Mark Hinds.
The Girl Scouts of America are criticizing the move, saying their organization is best suited to the needs of girls.
