MACY, Neb. — The board of the Omaha Nation Public School in Macy is responding to the arrest on school grounds of its former maintenance supervisor for illegal gun possession earlier this month.
Gregory Schoenfelder is charged with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and possession of a firearm at a school.
Now the school board has released a statement saying Schoenfelder was not a school employee, but a contractor whose contract has been terminated.
They're also vowing to strengthen their background check process for employees and contractors to avoid acquiring the services of known felons.
