Police in Yankton end standoff rescuing two hostages

YANKTON, S.D. — Police in Yankton say they have safely ended a standoff and rescued a man and woman taken hostage.

That standoff began shortly after 3 o'clock on Thursday when Yankton Police and parole agents from the South Dakota Department of Corrections arrived at a house on College Street.

The man they were there to check on Ricky German sealed himself into a bedroom with a man and woman as hostages.

After negotiations, the man was allowed to leave.

Officers went into the room just before 5 o'clock and arrested German rescuing the woman.

German is now being held in the Yankton County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated assault domestic, false imprisonment, kidnapping, kidnapping-2nd degree, possession of a controlled substance, unauthorized ingestion of a controlled substance, and contempt.

Police say he was also wanted in Charles Mix County.
