Renovations approved for former YMCA building

Renovations to former YMCA could be complete near the end of this year

The Sioux City council once again discussed the future of the old YMCA on Nebraska Street after giving the building a 90-day stay of demolition last week.

Tonight, after hearing from city staff that the developer looking to renovate that building has secured a bond of $70,000 towards that work.

The council voted to support an agreement with the owner to complete those renovations.

"It was very positive. Tonight was a unanimous yes vote to support the project and our efforts to renovate this building and to bring back to a productive part of Sioux City," said Paul Bernard, General Manager of Residential Equity Partners.

Residential Equity Partners plans to renovate the building into office space and hopes to have it ready near the end of this year.
