SCFR brings Smoke House to Leeds Elem. for Fire Prevention Week
Yesterday, fire fighters visited Leeds Elementary to teach young kids what to do in case of a fire at their home and today those kids got to put those lessons into action.
Sioux City Fire Rescue brought their fire safety house to Leeds Elementary today, giving students a chance to experience escaping from a smoke-filled room.
"It's different because a lot of them have never actually seen any smoke, we use theatrical smoke inside our trailer house. It's Halloween, kids love the Halloween smoke, so we charge it up pretty good, they're not able to see a lot in there. It kind of gives them more confidence in the event they would have a fire in their home that they're able to get out safely,: said Lieutenant Ryan Collins.
Both the lesson and today's practice are part of Fire Prevention Week activities here in Sioux City.
