SCPD holds public town hall to discuss community safety and opioid response
Sioux City's Police Department got a chance to meet with the community Thursday night.
During the department's annual town hall meeting, officers talked about their efforts to help local kids and make the skywalks and public transportation safer.
One major focus of the meeting was how police are responding to the opioid crisis.
"This year with all the talk about opioid abuse and overdoses nationwide and some coming to Iowa we thought this would be a good topic. Not only the citizens learned a lot from this presentation but our officers learned a lot. Just the nature of the opioid abuse and some of the things were seeing here in the state." said Sioux City Police Chief Rex Mueller.
Finally, officers talked about efforts to improve policing in Sioux City's neighborhoods and how residents can help them out with that.
