UPDATE: Victims of Emerson, NE crash identified

Hwy 35 closed for several hours due to car accident


We have received more information regarding the accident Monday night on Highway 35 near Emerson, Nebraska.

Jonathan Smith, 27 of Pender, NE was driving his truck Northbound on 35 when he collided with a semi tractor driven by Daniel Stueck, 38 of Columbus, NE.

Smith was transported to Mercy Medical Center by Emerson Rescue with sustained injuries.

Stueck was unharmed during the accident.

Nebraska State Patrol reconstructed the accident and removed the vehicles.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Dakota County Sheriff's Office.


A pickup and a semi collided on Highway 35 near Emerson forcing authorities to close that road for hours.

Emergency crews first responded to the call of a semi in a ditch just after 7:00 PM.

That crash site is located about 2 miles east of Emerson on Highway 35.

First responders arrived and found a pickup and semi collided. The semi was leaking fuel prompting authorities to close Highway 35 in both directions just before 7:30 this evening.

The driver of the pickup was transported to the hospital, no word on his condition. The driver of the semi was not injured.

That stretch of Highway 35 is now reopened.
