Sheriff's Office: Man Shoots Himself In The Leg After A Break-up

According to the Sac County Sheriff's Office, while he was possibly angry over a break-up, 29-year-old Mitchell Lee Sorensen shot himself in the leg with a shotgun at his parent's home in Odebolt, IA.

Sheriff's Deputies responded to a domestic dispute call at the home, located at 601 West 2nd Street in Odebolt. This was just before 11:30 PM Saturday night, September 26th.

While deputies were responding, the call was upgraded to shots fired. Once inside, those same deputies found Sorensen lying on the kitchen floor, he had been shot in the upper leg with a shotgun.

An investigation determined Sorensen was angry, possibly because of a recent break-up.

Sheriff's Deputies also say, earlier that night, Sorensen kicked in the side door of his parent's house, then damaged some items inside.

After that, he grabbed a shotgun out of a gun cabinet, loaded it, then went outside and shot one round into the air.

Finally, according to the Sheriff's office, Sorensen went back into the house and shot himself in the leg.

He was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City after a makeshift landing zone was secured at the Odebolt football field. His condition is not known at this time.
