SIOUX CITY, Iowa — A Sioux City care facility has been fined $10,000 for its role in the death of a patient last fall.
The Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals fined "Courage Homes" on Morningside Avenue for its role in the December 2022 death of a resident.
The inspection report claims that nurses actively ignored the resident's repeated calls for help over a period of four days to the point of removing him from his room so he would no longer have access to a call button. The man was found unresponsive the next day and taken to the hospital where he died of a twisted bowel.
"Courage Homes" is a licensed facility caring for people with intellectual disabilities and is managed by Mid-Step Services.
