Staying safe: Women Aware and Girls Inc. host safety event for moms and kids
"Safety" was the main theme at a special event for local moms and their kids.
"Women's Night Out"was sponsored by Women Aware and Girls Inc.
There were three presentations by local self- defense and safety experts on hand, sharing tips on how to protect yourself and your family with the dozens of women and children who came out to this year's event.
It's an opportunity for single moms and others who don't get a chance to get out much to learn and have some "me time" too.
"I think it's really important because we have so many women in our community who just don't have the ability to attend these kinds of events, especially having child's care and providing dinner, it really allows them sometime to pamper themselves and enjoy a night without their kids," said organizer Kristine Bornholtz.
Nearly 15 agencies, like Siouxland Community Health Center, were on hand providing resources and services to any women in need.
"To me this event really just means that all of these people that are here, are really geared towards helping these women be better moms and raise better children and just helping support the community," said guest Alexi Malatare.
This event was funded by a grant from the United Way's Women United agency.
The girls in attendance were also treated to a manicure.
