Teen injured in apartment fire has died

Teen critically injured in apartment fire, 13 others displaced

UPDATE : Sioux City Police say that 16 year old Misael Gonzalez Velasquez died early this morning at the St. Elizabeth Burn and Wound Center in Lincoln, NE as a result of his injuries sustained in Sunday's fire.

Police say the investigation is continuing.

A multiplex apartment is a total loss after an early morning fire that critically injured a Sioux City teen.

The fire broke out around 3:30 Sunday morning at 2008 Ingleside Avenue.

When fire crews arrived, they found the upstairs apartment engulfed with fire.

After entering the residence, a 16-year-old male victim was found inside.

He was transported to Mercy Medical Center with life-threatening injuries where he had to be resuscitated multiple times by medical personnel.

Once he was stabilized, he was flown to St. Elizabeth Regional Burn and Wound Center in Lincoln, NE with severe burns and smoke inhalation.

His name is not being released at this time.

Sioux City Fire Rescue and the Sioux City Police Department are investigating the cause of the fire but at this time, no foul play is suspected.

The entire building has been red-tagged and 13 people have been displaced.
