UPDATE: Police ID body found in Yankton

The body of a man has been recovered in the Siouxland area

UPDATE: An autopsy was conducted this morning on the male found in Yankton on Monday April 2nd 2018.

Preliminary cause of death was determined to be positional asphyxiation.

The male is 39 year old David Courtney.

No foul play is suspected.

"Somehow, we'll never have the answer to this, somehow he fell between two walls, two 9- inch spaces, and we feel as he exhaled his chest would have went in and as he exhaled he would have continued to slide down to the point it would have constricted him where he could no longer breathe," said Yankton Police Chief Brian Paulsen.

Authorities there say they've recovered a body from a downtown business area.

Police say the body was reported around 2:00 PM on Monday in the 100 block of 3rd street.

The body, that of a man, appears to have been there for some time.

It was recovered by Yankton Fire Rescue and taken to Sioux Falls for an autopsy tomorrow..

Police say they believe they know who the man is, but aren't releasing his identity at this time pending notification of his family.
