POWESHIEK COUNTY, Iowa (KGAN) -- The trial date for the man accused of murdering University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts is moved to September, according to court documents online.
Cristhian Bahena Rivera is charged with kidnapping, stabbing and killing the 20-year-old and leaving her body in a cornfield outside her hometown of Brooklyn, Iowa.
Bahena Rivera's trial has been set for 9 a.m. on Sept. 3 at Poweshiek County Courthouse in Montezuma, Iowa.
The trial was scheduled for April 16, but Bahena Rivera's attorneys asked for more time to review the evidence against him.
They argued there wouldn't be enough time to review the latest version of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation's file by the deadline to complete discovery and file pretrial motion, which was Jan. 15.
