SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Ne — The University of Nebraska cut the ribbon on a unique new building here in Siouxland.
This new building, called a Design Build Studio, is a partnership between the University and the City of South Sioux City and was designed by the graduate architect students.
The collaborative effort took two years to complete and will have many benefits for the students and the community.
"This is a model where students come into the school, come into the program and they learn about architecture by building buildings. It's called design build and it's part of our educational model, as they say. There are many benefits of that, that students see first hand, get first hand experience of their designs," said Jason Griffiths, an associate architect professor.
This new building is one of a kind in Nebraska, being the first cross-laminated timber building in the state.
