SIOUX CITY, Iowa — It’s been an impressive season on the baseball diamond for Morningside’s Jayson Willers, leading the Mustangs in almost every statistical hitting category. The sophomore catcher has consistently produced on a weekly basis at the plate, posting a team high 63 hits, 15 doubles, 10 home runs, and 54 runs batted in.
"I think the biggest adjustment I made this year was that I tried to see the ball a little deeper, that way I could shoot balls to right field with power, and I've been doing that a little bit lately," said Willers. "I've just been trying to drive gap to gap and get those extra base hits up."
Throughout the season, Willers has contributed to a very powerful Morningside offense, a group that now has their sights set on a conference championship.
"You know it's something that I feel like we've prepared for," said Morningside head baseball coach Adam Boeve. "We've won a lot of close ball games, our guys have really been game-to-game in their focus and their mindset. I love our guys and the way that they compete, and I know they're going to be ready to go. I look forward to the challenge ahead."
"I don't think you've seen the best of us yet," said Willers. "I think going into the tournament we're really going to turn it up, especially with this last series against Concordia, which is a really good team. I think we're really going to lock it in, fine tune all of our aspects, and just play good baseball."
